PaperCut Hive Setup and First-Time Badge Registration

PaperCut Hive is the District's cloud-based print management solution. This guide walks users through logging into the PaperCut client application on Windows and macOS devices, retrieving a one-time badge registration access code, and releasing your first print job at a physical printer.

Note for authors: This guide applies to Maricopa Community Colleges District Office (MCCCD) employees and staff utilizing district-managed Windows and macOS workstations.

Before You Begin

  • An active MEID@maricopa.edu account and an active internet connection.
  • Your physical employee ID badge for printer releases.
  • PaperCut Hive Client software installed on your computer.

Steps

Windows Setup & Client Authentication (If Using a Windows Computer)

  • Locate & Launch PaperCut: Look for the PaperCut icon in the Windows system tray (bottom-right corner, next to the clock). Click the up arrow (^) to reveal hidden tray items if needed, then select PaperCut

  • Log In: In the PaperCut system tray application window, click Login.
  • Single Sign-On (SSO): Enter your MEID@maricopa.edu address and/or click the green SSO (single Sign-On) button to authenticate.
Icon not visible? Check Settings > Apps > Startup to verify PaperCut is enabled. If missing, contact Customer Care or local IT Operations.

macOS Setup & Client Authentication (If using an Apple Computer)

  • Locate & Launch PaperCut: Look for the PaperCut icon in the macOS menu bar (top-right corner of your screen) and click it to open the menu.

  • Log In: From the dropdown menu, select Login.
  • Single Sign-On (SSO): Enter your MEID@maricopa.edu address and/or click the Green SSO (Single Sign-On) button to authenticate.
Icon not visible? Open System Settings > General > Login Items > Allow in the Menu Bar to verify PaperCut is allowed. Contact IT if it remains unlisted.

Retrieve Access Code, Send Test Print and Register Employee Badge

  • After successful SSO authentication, navigate to hive.papercut.com in your browser.
  • Enter your MEID@maricopa.edu address and click the green SSO (single Sign-On) button to authenticate.

  • Once logged in to PaperCut, locate and write down your Access Code, which is displayed in the center of the screen. (Note: You only need this code once to register your physical badge.)

  • Send a Test Print:
    • Open any document (Word, PDF, web page) and open the print menu (Ctrl + P on Windows or Command + P on macOS).
    • Select "PaperCut Printer" from your printer selection.
    • Configure your print job and click Print. Your print job will now be securely held in PaperCut.
  • Release Job at the Physical Printer:
    • Walk to any physical printer and scan your ID badge on the card reader located on the printer.
    • When prompted on the card reader screen, enter the Access Code you recorded earlier to register your badge.
    • Select your test print job from the screen and press Print Selected

Troubleshooting / Notes

  • SSO Authentication Failure: Double-check your MEID username and password. Ensure your workstation has an active network connection. Restart the PaperCut application and try again.
  • Print Job Stuck or Not Releasing: Scan your badge again at the card reader. If the reader prompts for an Access Code again, re-enter the code retrieved in Phase 3.
  • Missing PaperCut Printer Option: If PaperCut Printer is not listed in your print dialog box, restart your device or contact IT Operations to trigger a software refresh.
Warning: If the PaperCut client application is not running in your system tray or menu bar prior to sending a print job, your documents will not be sent to the print queue.
