Preface: Please ensure to turn the Projector screen on via the Crestron box located on the instructor station desk by hitting the power icon button.
This Knowledge Base will demonstrate how to perform basic troubleshooting when instruction is being provided in a classroom that has projector capabilities.
If the projection is not working properly with the projector screen not displaying the content(s) of what the computer at the instructor station is displaying, and is instead displaying either a blank/black screen or the EMCC desktop wallpaper (pictured below):
Please follow these steps to see to it that the display mode is configured to the correct state as to duplicate/mirror the contents of the computer monitor to the projector screen as well.
WINDOWS MACHINES ⊞ (10/11)
When you are providing instruction in a classroom and need to project, press the Windows logo key + P on your keyboard (refer to picture below)
and from the PROJECT window that will pop up choose one of the four options (pictured below are the PROJECT menu screens for Windows 10/11): Left Image is from a Windows 10 machine. The image to the right is from a Windows 11 machine.
PROJECT MENU OPTIONS
- PC screen only. You'll see everything on your PC. (When you're connected to a wireless projector, this option changes to Disconnect.)
- Duplicate. You'll see the same things on both screens.
Ensure that this is the option selected from the PROJECT window.
- Extend. You'll see everything across both screens, and you can drag and move items between the two.
- Second screen only. You'll see everything on the connected screen. The other screen will be blank.
Please refrain from choosing this option. If the PC monitor has a black screen but the projector is only displaying, this option may have been set.
- At which point, while looking at the projector screen, hit the Windows logo key + P on your keyboard to bring up the PROJECT window. Select the Duplicate option and this should resolve the issue.
macOS MACHINES
When you are providing instruction in a classroom that has a Mac mini and need to project, while the logon splash screen is displayed on the computer monitor (see picture below)
press the command (⌘) + F1 on the keyboard (pictured below) to display Mirroring to the projector in the classroom. Perform this keyboard shortcut ONLY ONCE.
