Auto-Captioning for Online Meetings & Events
When participating in an online meeting using one of the platforms available at EMCC, automatic captioning services are available to provide real time captioning. This feature is present in the streaming and web conferencing platforms that are available to employees. This document will walk through the steps to enable meeting participants to use captioning and related features.
WebEx
Enabling Captions
While in a WebEx meeting, click the small closed captioning button as shown in the image below to enable captions

Once captions are enabled, the button will turn white.

Changing the Captioning Language
The language of the captions can be changed by clicking the dropdown arrow on the caption button and selecting a new language

Customize Captioning Window
The captioning window can be displayed in light or dark mode. You can do this simply by clicking the button on the bottom right side with the 3 dots (...) and selecting Use light background or Use dark background, whichever is appropriate based on current setting.

Customize Captioning Font Size
The captioning text font size can be adjusted. You can do this simply by clicking the button on the bottom right side with the 3 dots (...) and selecting Font size. You will be presented with a slider that you can adjust to change the size of the font.

View Captioning Transcript
A transcript of the meeting captions are available. They can be viewed by clicking the button on the bottom right side with the 3 dots (...) and selecting View captions and highlights. You will be presented with panel on the right side with the transcript.

Google Meet
Enabling Captions
While in a Google Meet meeting, click the small closed captioning button as shown in the image below to enable captions. You can also enable them under the 3 dots menu or under the Captions settings dialog box

Once captions are enabled, the colors of the button will change as shown.

Changing the Captioning Language
The language of the captions can be changed by clicking the dropdown arrow on the caption button and selecting a new language

YouTube
Enabling Captions
While viewing a YouTube stream or video, click the small closed captioning button as shown in the image below to enable captions

Once captions are enabled, the button icon will show a red line underneath it.

Changing the Captioning Language
The language of the captions can be changed by clicking the gear icon next to the closed captioning button and selecting the Subtitles/CC option. You will be presented with an option to switch from English to Auto-translate.
