Welcome to Cisco Jabber
Jabber is your soft work phone. It replaces your desktop line for calling and voicemail. Your phone number does not change.
Before you start
- Your MEID and Maricopa password
- A headset, or your computer's built-in microphone and speakers
- Your phone extension — the number on your old desk phone

Make a call
Type the number or the person's name in the search or call bar at the top of the window, then press Enter or click the green phone icon.
While on a call
Transfer a call to someone else

Courtesy tip
Tell the caller you're transferring them before you click Transfer. The call moves immediately — there is no undo.
Set up your headset
Do this once, before your first call. It takes about a minute and prevents the most common problem people report after moving to a softphone.

- Plug in your headset
- In Jabber, open the menu or gear icon and choose Setting > Audio
- Set Speaker to your headset
- Set Microphone to your headset
- Click Test next to each one. You should hear a tone and the microphone level bar should move when you speak
When to check it again
Check this again any time you change headsets, plug into a different dock, or start using a new computer. If your headset is unplugged during a call, Jabber falls back to your computer speakers.
Voicemail

New messages appear on the Voicemail tab with count badge. Click the play arrow to listen.
First time setup: before people can leave you a message, record your name and greeting and set your PIN.
Chat and your status

Your status tells colleagues whether you're reachable. Click the arrow next to your name to change it, or type a custom message such as "In class until 2 PM".
Sending a message: Type a colleague's name in the search bar, select them, and type in the chat box.

Quick Fixes
| If this happens |
Try this first |
| My outside call won't connect |
Dial 9 before the number. |
| No one can hear me |
Check you aren't muted, then check Settings › Audio (See above) |
| I can't hear the caller |
Confirm your headset is selected in Settings › Audio, and check your computer's volume. |
| Jabber won't accept my password |
Your Maricopa password probably changed. Sign out of Jabber and sign back in. |
| Jabber won't sign in at all |
Restart Jabber. If it still fails, restart your computer, then submit a ticket. |
| My computer rings when I'm away from my desk |
Set your status to Do Not Disturb, or install Jabber on your phone. |
| Calls sound choppy on Wi-Fi |
Move closer to the access point, or connect with a network cable if one is available. |
