Overview
This article explains what Webex cohosts are, what they can do, and how to add them through a meeting, Google Calendar, or the Webex scheduler.
What Are Cohosts?
A cohost can start and facilitate a Webex meeting when the primary host is unavailable. Cohosts can also assist with meeting management functions. Depending on meeting settings, the host may choose specific cohosts, or Webex may automatically designate the first participant who joins.
What Can a Cohost Do?
- Start a meeting
- Mute or unmute participants
- Admit attendees from the lobby
- Initiate a recording
- Invite additional attendees
- Manage breakout sessions
- Lock or unlock the meeting
Add Cohosts During the Meeting
- Open the Participants panel in the meeting.
- Right-click the attendee you want to make a cohost.
- Select Change Role → Make Cohost.
Add Cohosts in a Google Calendar Invite

- Open Google Calendar.
- Select the meeting where you want to add a cohost.
- Click the Webex icon in the right-hand panel.
- Ensure the person you want to assign as a cohost is listed as a guest. If not, edit the invite and add them.
- In the Webex panel, select Let me choose cohosts for this meeting, then check the box next to each eligible attendee.
Add Cohosts from the Web Scheduler
- Go to https://maricopa.webex.com and log in using your MEID@maricopa.edu email address.
- Select the meeting where you want to add a cohost.
If this is for a webinar, select Webinars from the left menu and choose your event.
- Under Who is Invited (Webex Meetings) or Panelists (Webex Webinars), click the three dots next to the participant’s name.
- Select Assign Cohost.
Gotchas and Pitfalls
- You can only edit the meeting from the platform where it was originally scheduled (e.g., meetings created in Google Calendar must be edited there).
- Cohosts must have a Webex host account under the email address used in the meeting invite. Without a host account, they cannot be pre-assigned as a cohost.
- Distribution lists cannot be added as cohosts.
