Installation and Connection Instructions

NOTE: These instructions are for District Office, Emerald Point, Wood Street, and Public Safety
employees only.
For college employees, please review this document or contact your local help desk for assistance.
Multiple options are available to sign in to Cisco Virtual Private Network (VPN) with multi-factor
authentication (MFA). The options are DUO push, DUO code, SMS, and phone. Instructions for each
are included in this guide.
The preferred option is DUO push and should be used whenever possible.

Introduction


While most of Maricopa's applications and services can be accessed remotely and from
anywhere, some applications, services, and functions are restricted to the Maricopa network.
VPN access will be required in these cases. VPN is a technology that enables secure,
encrypted connectivity between your computer and resources on the Maricopa network.
Note: VPN access and instructions may vary by location. Please contact your local help desk for
assistance.

Target Audience

Important: As VPN instructions vary by college, these instructions apply to users located at the
following locations only:
● District Office
● Emerald Point
● Wood Street
● Maricopa Public Safety

Prerequisites


In order to setup and use the Cisco VPN AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client software, the following
prerequisites must be met:
● You must have administrative access on your computer to install the software.
● You must be granted VPN access to use this service. To request VPN access, please submit a
help desk ticket at your location.
If you have questions about these prerequisites or encounter issues installing the Cisco AnyConnect

Step 1: Before You Start


IMPORTANT: Many Maricopa-issued devices already has the Cisco VPN AnyConnect Secure
Mobility Client installed
Follow these steps to determine if the VPN software is installed on your computer. Use either of
the following options:
1. Use the Windows start menu: select the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client from the
Cisco applications group
2. Use search: click the Windows start menu and start by typing cisco – see diagram 2

If VPN software is installed, skip to STEP 3: Launching the VPN Client.
If the software is not installed, proceed to STEP 2: Installing the VPN Client.

Step 2: Installing the VPN Client


IMPORTANT: This step only applies if the Cisco VPN AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client is NOT
installed on your computer.
If you do not have Cisco VPN AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client software installed, it is available
to install from this online location.
1. Go to https://secdovpn.maricopa.edu
2. When the login screen appears, do the following
a. In GROUP, make user ‘Users’ is selected.
b. In the USERNAME field, enter your MEID
c. In the PASSWORD field, enter your password
d. In the DUO Passcode or push field
i. Type push this will send a push notification to the DUO app on your phone
ii. OR type the numeric passcode that is provided inside your DUO app
e. Click LOGIN
f. If you typed push in step d, then approve the DUO alert in your DUO app

3. Click CONTINUE to accept the terms and conditions for use

The Cisco VPN AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client download window will appear.
1. Click the INSTRUCTIONS button for a step-by-step guide to installing the software.

2. Click DOWNLOAD FOR WINDOWS to begin.
3. Once the download is complete, click on the file to start the installation
In google chrome it should be in the bottom left corner of your browser
You can also go to your downloads folder and run it from there

4. In the “Welcome to Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client Setup Wizard” dialogue window,
click NEXT.

5. In the “End-User License Agreement” dialogue window, click “I accept the terms in the
License Agreement” and click NEXT.

6. In the “Ready to Install” dialogue window, click INSTALL.

7. In the User Account Control dialogue window, click YES to answer this question: “Do you
want to allow this app to make changes to your device?”
8. in the Completing the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client Setup Wizard dialogue
window, click FINISH.

STEP 3: Launching the VPN Client


1. The Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client can be opened in multiple ways.
a. Use the Windows start menu: select the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client
from the Cisco application group – see diagram 1.
b. Use search: click the Windows start menu and start by typing cisco – see diagram 2.

2. The first time you launch the Cisco VPN AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client you may need to
enter secdovpn.maricopa.edu in the box next to CONNECT if the field is either blank or
doesn’t have secdovpn.maricopa.edu specified. If it is already there, then click on connect.

3. Click Connect.

STEP 4: Ways to Authenticate with DUO


Step 4.1: Logging into VPN with DUO PUSH
Authentication


This is the preferred method of logging in to the VPN.
1. Open the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client. (See STEP 3)
a. Click Connect.

2. In Group, make sure ‘Users’ is selected.
3. In the Username field, type your MEID.
4. In Password, type your Password.
5. In the DUO Passcode or push field, type push.
6. Click OK.

7. DUO will send a push notification to your DUO App. Click Approve.

8. Click Accept.

9. After logging in successfully, the maricopa.edu site opens.

Step 4.2: Logging into VPN with DUO Passcode


1. Open the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client. (See STEP 3)
a. Click Connect.

2. In Group, make sure ‘Users’ is selected.
3. In the Username field, type your MEID.
4. In Password, type your Password.

5. Open the DUO App on your device to get the passcode.

6. In the DUO Passcode or push field, type the passcode.
7. Click OK.
8. Click Accept.

9. After logging in successfully, the maricopa.edu site opens.

Step 4.3: Logging into VPN with DUO SMS Text
Message Code


1. Open the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client. (See STEP 3) .
a. Click Connect.

2. In Group, make sure ‘Users’ is selected.
3. In the Username field, type your MEID.
4. In Password, type your Password.
5. In the DUO Passcode or push field, type sms.
6. Click OK.

7. The Cisco AnyConnect screen removes the login credentials.

8. The SMS passcode has been sent to your device as a text message.

9. In the password field, re-enter your password.
10. In the DUO passcode or push field, type the SMS passcode that was sent to your device as a
text message.
11. Click OK.

12 Click Accept.

13. After logging in successfully, the maricopa.edu site opens.


Step 4.4: Logging into VPN with Phone Call


1. Open the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client. (See STEP 3)
a. Click Connect.

2. In Group, make sure ‘Users’ is selected.
3. In the Username field, type your MEID.
4. In Password, type your Password.
5. In the DUO Passcode or push field, type phone.
6. Click OK.

7. DUO calls your registered phone number.
8. Answer the call and hit any one of the keys on your keypad to authenticate.

9. Click Accept.

10. After logging in successfully, the maricopa.edu site opens.
