Overview
Users in Canvas have the ability to turn on automatic closed captions when playing Canvas media. When this feature is turned on, Canvas media videos will display subtitles in the user's current language (shown in their "Settings"). Please follow the step-by-step instructions below to turn on the "Auto Show Closed Captions" feature.
- Note: Only videos with caption available will automatically show captions once this feature is turned on. Videos with no captions available will not show any captions.
Turning on Auto Closed Captions
Please follow these instructions to turn on the "Auto Show Closed Captions" feature.
- Log into Canvas with your MEID@maricopa.edu credentials.
- Navigate to the "Account" tab on the left-hand side of your screen.
- Select "Settings".
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page to "Feature Options".
- Find the "Auto Show Closed Captions" feature (should be at the top).
- Note: If "Auto Show Closed Captions" feature is not displayed, make sure the drop down under "Feature Options" is set to "All" and "Search by name or id" field is clear. You can also search for the feature here.
- Click the red "X" icon on the right under the "State" column title.
- Note: If there is a green check icon under the "State" column title instead of a red "X" icon, the feature is already turned on.
- Select "Enabled".
- Validate the icon has changed to a green check icon. This means the "Auto Show Closed Captions" feature is turned on!
