LastPass – How to Generate Secure Password

Summary:

Create the most secure and random passwords for a site by using the built-in password generator, then store those passwords in LastPass vault. LastPass recommends to use generated passwords as a security best practice.

Solution:

Generate a secure password by doing the following:

  1. Login to your LastPass account to access your vault

Navigate to a website for which you'd like to generate a new secure password. Or, if you want to change the password for a site with one that is generated by LastPass, log in to your desired site and access your account's login settings.

  1. In LastPass, click on Advance options from the left navigation menu

  1. Select Generate secure password to open the password generator window

  1. Generate a secure password by doing either of the following:
  • Slide the marker to select your desired Password length or enter a number in the text field, maximum is 100 characters.
  • Select any of the following character types to include in your password:
    • Lowercase (abc)
    • Uppercase (ABC)
    • Numbers (123)
    • Symbols (*^$#)

  1. Once your selections have been made, copy the password you generated into the login field on your website or account.
  2. When prompted in the upper-right navigation menu, select Add password or Update your newly generated secure password
