Setting up Notifications in Canvas

Overview

Users with a Canvas account have the ability to set up notifications to filter what is being sent out to them as a notification. Please follow the step-by-step instructions below to set up notifications in Canvas to send from the app or emailed. 

Managing Notifications

Please follow these instructions to configure your notification settings.

  • Log into Canvas with your MEID@maricopa.edu credentials.
  • Navigate to the "Account" tab on the left-hand side of your screen.
  • Select "Notifications".
  • Click the dropdown underneath "Settings for".
    • Here you can select notification settings pertaining to your account in general or for individual courses you are enrolled in.
  • Click the icons underneath the contact column (Email, Push Notification) for each notification you want to change.

Confirming Your Email in Canvas

In order to receive emails regarding Canvas notifications, users must first confirm their email within Canvas. Follow the steps below to confirm your email in Canvas:

  • Log into Canvas with your MEID@maricopa.edu credentials.
  • Navigate to the "Account" tab on the left-hand side of your screen.
  • Select "Settings".
  • On the right-hand side of the screen under "Ways to Contact", click the exclamation mark icon. This will send a confirmation link to your email.
    • Note: If there is no exclamation mark, your email has already been confirmed and nothing else is needed.
  • Once you click the exclamation mark icon, a box will display indicating a confirmation link was sent to your email. Click "Ok, Thanks" button.
    • Note: Make sure you are checking the email that was listed by the exclamation mark that you clicked.
  • In your email inbox, open the confirmation email and click "Click here to confirm this registration."
    • Note: Once clicking the link, an unauthorized error may pop up, you can disregard this error.
  • Go back to Canvas and refresh the "Settings" page. Check your email address under "Ways to Contact" and it should now appear without an exclamation mark next to it. This means your email is now confirmed!
