Description
This standard defines the computer equipment for staff-assigned computers at Phoenix College, along with the funding model for refreshing those computers.
Purpose
To support transparency and give departments some choice, ITS has created this standard to define an acceptable configuration for most faculty and staff computing needs, for both Windows and Mac computers. While the hardware standards will usually still apply in cases such as grants or college savings funds, the funding model may differ in those situations.
Standard/Policy
Hardware Standards
Phoenix College has established a standard laptop setup for all full-time staff. This includes a computer, monitor(s) with speakers, mic, and camera, plus a keyboard and mouse. For shared computer spaces, such as adjunct faculty workrooms or areas where multiple part-time employees share a computer, shared desktop computers will be provided.

Purchasing and Refresh
Computer refresh follows an established schedule, currently about every 5 years for all computer models, depending on funding. The standard options above will be purchased for staff when new equipment is needed or when a refresh occurs. If additional needs require a different computer model, IT will work with the department to decide what is necessary and reasonable based on available resources.
